UC Riverside deals University of Hawaii a baseball loss
UC Riverside generated 18 hits, including nine doubles, in a 9-2 baseball victory over Hawaii today at Les Murakami Stadium.
Earlier in the day, the Rainbow Warriors won 5-4 in a continuation of a game that was suspended in the third inning Friday because of heavy rain and lightning.
But in the second game of this three-game Big West series, the Highlanders chased UH right-hander Neil Uskali with two outs in the second inning, the briefest start in his two-season Division I career. Uskali exited with a 5-0 deficit.
The Highlanders led 7-0 before the ’Bows scored two in the bottom of the fourth. The Highlanders’ nine doubles tied a record for most two-baggers by a UH opponent.
The ’Bows fell to 19-12 overall and 5-3 in the Big West. The Highlanders are 14-15 and 4-4. The teams meet Sunday at 1:05 p.m. in the series finale.
