More than 1,000 trees will be given away at Manoa Marketplace on April 28.

The nonprofit Malama Manoa and the Manoa branch of The Outdoor Circle will give away more than 1,000 trees at a April 28 event at Manoa Marketplace.
The event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at the site of the Manoa Open Market near the post office.
Organizers said the giveaway is intended to encourage residents to plant trees and other vegetation as a means of enhancing living environments. Among the trees and plants being offered this year are kukui nut, variegated hao, mountain apple, plumeria, papaya, red and green ti, panax, lauae ferns, valentine vines, ice cream bean, avocado, false wiliwili, monstera, monkey pod, naupaka, snow bush, kalo, staghorn ferns, coconut and yellow ginger.
