University of Hawaii reaches Big West men’s volleyball final
LONG BEACH, Calif. >> Sophomore opposite Rado Parapunov put down 15 kills and added four aces, and second-seeded Hawaii advanced to Saturday’s Big West tournament championship match with a 25-16, 25-23, 20-25, 25-18 victory over third-seeded UC Irvine today at Long Beach State.
It was the Rainbow Warriors’ first postseason victory over the Anteaters in three meetings.
Junior hitters Stijn van Tilburg and Brett Rosenmeier added 11 and 10 kills for Hawaii (19-7). The Warriors will face Long Beach State (25-1), which beat Cal State Northridge 25-23, 25-13, 25-17 in the other semifinal today.
Karl Apfelbach had 14 kills for UCI (21-9).
Hawaii junior setter Joe Worsley finished with a double-double with 46 assists and a match-high 10 digs. Junior middle Dalton Solbrig added nine kills without an error in 12 swings.
