Academy of Art defeated Hawaii Hilo twice by scores of 8-7 and 2-1 on Sunday in Oakland, Calif.
The Urban Knights scored seven runs in the first inning of the first game and the Vulcans couldn’t recover, despite Phillip Steering’s two home runs.
The second game featured a pitching duel as AA’s Chris Petrosie tossed a complete game in the seven-inning victory.
Academy of Art (21-19 overall, 16-15 PacWest Conference) looks to sweep the series over UH Hilo (14-23, 10-19) as game four begins today at 3 p.m. Hawaii time.
>> Hawaii Pacific dropped a 9-7 decision against Holy Names on Sunday in Alameda, Calif. The Hawks (9-32, 5-26 PWC) overcame a four-run deficit for the second straight game. HPU fell to 18-21 and 12-19.

Sharks softball loses a pair on road
Academy of Art took both games of a doubleheader over Hawaii Pacific by scores of 7-3 and 4-0 on Sunday in Brisbane, Calif.
Cieana Curran recorded three hits in the first game for the Sharks but the Urban Knights plated two runs in each of the second, third and fourth innings to break open the game.
AA’s pitcher Brenna Mitchell tossed a complete-game shutout and scattered six hits as Academy of Art (35-12, 18-6) took the second game over HPU (21-18, 14-14).
HPU hosts Chaminade on Saturday for a doubleheader, with first pitch scheduled for noon at Howard A. Okita Field.
