Farrington got monster performances at the plate from Chasen Castilliano and Reese Shioji in knocking off No. 4 Molokai 12-8 in the Wally Yonamine Foundation/HHSAA Baseball Division II Championships quarterfinals on Wednesday at Hans L’Orange Park.
Castilliano, the center fielder for the OIA champion Governors (12-3), hit a grand slam in the second inning and went 4-for-5 from the leadoff spot, driving in five runs and scoring twice. Third baseman Shioji went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, as the two combined for all but three of their team’s 11 hits.
Trey Kaawa yielded seven runs in five innings but earned the win nonetheless as the Govs used a seven-run sixth inning to overcome a two-run deficit. Farrington advanced to face top-seeded Damien in today’s 10 a.m. semifinal at Les Murakami Stadium.
Five batters recorded a multi-hit game for the MIL champion and previously unbeaten Farmers (11-1), led by center fielder Cody-Hunter Hiro’s 3-for-4 effort with two stolen bases batting leadoff.
Kapaa 9, Waianae 3
Kaimi Malina pitched six effective innings and drove in the go-ahead run as the third-seeded Warriors advanced to face the Kamehameha-Hawaii/Radford winner in today’s 1 p.m. semifinal at Les Murakami Stadium.
The Seariders rallied to knot the game at 3 in the fifth inning, only to have the KIF champion Warriors (10-3) go back up one in the bottom of the frame when Ekolu Rivera tripled to center, followed by an RBI single by Malina. Kapaa then blew the game open with a five-run sixth.
Kade Kupihea gave up one hit in the final two innings to earn the save.
Rico Rosario went 2-for-3 with a double and triple to lead the OIA third-place Seariders (10-4).
Damien 11, Konawaena 1, 5 inn.
The ILH champion Monarchs mercy-ruled the Wildcats thanks to a balanced offensive effort and a six-run fifth inning.
Bryce Uyeno picked up the win, striking out six in just three innings, and Kaimana Cameron went 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBIs for Damien (13-7).
Konawaena (9-9) was held to three hits by Uyeno and Kaycee Natividad.
