Driver dies after truck plunges 200 feet off of Hana Highway
A 47-year-old, male driver from Haiku was killed when his pickup truck plunged 200 feet over a cliff on Maui’s Hana Highway and ended up partially submerged in water Wednesday, Maui police said.
The unidentified man was driving a white, 2013 GMC pickup truck north on Hana Highway around 1:44 p.m. when he went over a 200-foot cliff at the top of Maliko Gulch toward Hookipa, police said.
At the bottom of the cliff, emergency crews recovered the truck, which was partially submerged in water.
The driver was found inside and pronounced dead at the scene.
His identity has yet to be released.
