3 dead in trio of crashes on Oahu roads overnight
Honolulu police responded to three separate deadly crashes that occurred within a three-hour period today.
Sometime before 4 a.m., police shut down a section of the townbound lanes of the H-2 freeway in Wahiawa after a vehicle struck a 47-year-old woman who was crossing the freeway.
The collision occurred shortly before 3:30 a.m.
Lt. Ben Moszkowicz of the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division said an orange 2016 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck operated by a 25-year-old Wahiawa man was traveling townbound on the freeway when the vehicle struck the woman who was crossing the freeway in dark clothing.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Speed or alcohol were not factors on the part of the driver.

Another deadly crash occurred hours earlier in Kaneohe. At about 12:50 a.m. on Kamehameha Highway before Kualoa Ranch, Moszkowicz said a Kaneohe man in his late 30s was traveling Kahuku-bound in a black 2000 Nissan pickup truck when he failed to negotiate a curve on the roadway and rear-ended a minivan parked on the shoulder.
Two people — a 44-year-old woman and 47-year-old man — who were near or next to the minivan were thrown upon impact and landed in nearby bushes. Moszkowicz said Emergency Medical Services treated and transported them to a hospital in critical condition.
A third person who was also near the minivan became pinned between the pickup truck and a stone wall and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Speed was a factor in the crash. Moszkowicz said they also suspect drugs were involved.
Paramedics treated and transported the pickup truck driver to a hospital in serious condition where he was treated and released.
Police arrested him at about 5:45 a.m. on suspicion of one count of negligent homicide, two counts of negligent injury and operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant.
Charges are pending.
At about 12:40 a.m. in Kailua, police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Maunawili Road. The driver, described to be in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
