A broken fire hydrant sprayed water dozens of feet into the air this afternoon at Stevenson Middle School.

An SUV crashed into a fire hydrant causing water to geyser several stories high this afternoon at Stevenson Middle School.

Firefighters responded to the crash on Prospect Street at about 12:40 p.m. and found the hydrant had been knocked off its base and water was shooting some 40 feet into the air, said Honolulu Fire Capt. Kevin Mokulehua.

Firefighters assisted the Board of Water Supply with shutting off the hydrant at about 1:10 p.m., Mokulehua said.

No major injuries were reported.
