Hawaii island firefighters were unable to determine the cause a fire that destroyed a home today in Pahoa.

Firefighters responded at about 8 a.m. to 14-3357 Hapuu Road and found a single-story, wood-framed home engulfed in flames, Big Island firefighters said.

The structure was partially hidden from the road by heavy brush surrounding the home.

Firefighters said the cause could not be determined because of the extent of damage and a lack of witnesses.

Damage was estimated at $99,000.
