The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a 60-year-old man who died near Kualoa Ranch after a pickup truck plowed into him as Karllton Gorai Sr. of Kaneohe.
Gorai died Friday after a black Nissan pickup truck operated by a man in his late 30s failed to negotiate a curve on Kamehameha Highway and struck him and two other people at about 12:50 a.m. that morning.
Gorai was pronounced dead at the scene after he was pinned against a stone wall. Police said a 44-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man were transported in critical condition to a hospital.
Police arrested the pickup driver that morning on suspicion of one count of negligent homicide and two counts of negligent injury. He was released Saturday pending further investigation.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division at 723-3413.
Police hunt suspect in knifepoint robbery
Honolulu police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a male suspect who allegedly stole items from an ABC store in Waikiki.
Police said the perpetrator entered the store shortly before 9:45 p.m. May 21. Surveillance video captured him removing some items from one of the shelves and placing them in a bag.
When confronted by a cashier, police said, the perpetrator brandished a knife and fled on a bicycle in an unknown direction.
He was wearing a green T-shirt, dark-colored jacket and pants, a baseball cap and a burgundy backpack at the time of the robbery.
Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call 911 or CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
