Police find Kona man clutching pistol asleep in car

Nikolaus Jason Slavik, 39, of Kailua-Kona. Slavik was charged with four counts of firearm-related violations, one count of fraudulent license plates, promoting a dangerous drug in the third-degree and drug paraphernalia.

A 39-year-old-man has been charged after he was allegedly found passed out in a vehicle holding a firearm on Hawaii island.

Nikolaus Jason Slavik of Kailua-Kona was charged with four counts of firearm-related violations, one count of fraudulent license plates, promoting a dangerous drug in the third degree and drug paraphernalia. He is scheduled to make his initial court appearance at Third Circuit Court in Kona today. Slavik’s bail has been set at $8,525.

Police responded to a report of a suspicious male near Aloha Boulevard in Ocean View around 7:21 a.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, they observed the man later identified as Slavik passed out in the driver’s seat of the vehicle holding a pistol.

Police recovered the firearm. During a search of the vehicle, police found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
