Pedestrian critical after struck by car in Kalihi

Michael Tsai

A male pedestrian was critically injured early this morning after he was struck by a passing vehicle while trying to cross Kamehameha Highway in Kalihi.

The incident occurred around 2:15 a.m. near Ahua Street.

Police said the man was in the vicinity of a marked crosswalk but did not have the right of way when he was struck by a westbound vehicle operated by a 33-year-old man.

Speed and alcohol were not factors in the incident, according to police.

The man was transported in critical condition to an area hospital.
