Fast-moving brush fire growing
A concrete mixing plant owned by HC&D and Central Maui Landfill were evacuated Tuesday as firefighters battled a fast-moving brush fire on Maui.
The Maui Fire Department says the blaze was not threatening any homes.
The department got the first call around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and was sending three engines, two tankers, two air units and several heavy-equipment units to battle the fire.
The blaze had burned about 2,500 acres of fallow sugar cane and brush by Tuesday evening.
The flames were reported to be near Haleakala Highway and Haliimaile Road below Pukalani and were spreading south.
The cause of the fire had not been determined.
