Committee to host annual peace service ceremony
The Hiroshima Commemoration and Peace Committee is hosting its annual Peace Service Ceremony at 11 a.m. Aug. 6 at the Izumo Taishakyo Mission, 215 N. Kukui St. This year’s ceremony marks the 73rd anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima during World War II.
The ceremony opens with a blessing and purification ceremony by the Rev. Daiya Amana of the Hawaii Izumo Taishakyo Mission and will be followed by special messages and songs from the community. At the conclusion of the ceremony, attendees will be invited to ring the Hiroshima Peace Bell, a replica of the Peace Bell in Hiroshima which was given to the City and County of Honolulu by the Hiroshima prefectural government in 1985.
