Police arrested a man with no local address after he allegedly threw a rock at a vehicle fronting the Honolulu Police Department headquarters early Tuesday.
Police said a man operating a Toyota minivan on South Beretania Street pulled over to the side of the roadway to drop off a passenger at about 5:10 a.m. As he drove away, the man suddenly heard a loud noise that sounded like an object striking the driver’s side of the vehicle.
Police said he observed the male suspect standing nearby.
When the victim exited his vehicle, he observed damage to the driver door. The victim did not sustain any injuries.
Police arrested the suspect on suspicion of second-degree criminal property damage.
Drowning victim found at Bellows
Range safety inspectors at Marine Corps Base Hawaii discovered an apparent drowning victim on its training area at Bellows beach Tuesday afternoon, according to a statement released by the Marines. Lifesaving measures were attempted, and the victim was transferred to Castle Medical Center. An official investigation will be conducted, and no further details were released Tuesday.
Bellows Beach Park is closed to the public Tuesdays through Thursday, and the Marines’ training areas, including beaches, are off-limits to the general public.
Firefighters rescue missing kayaker
Maui firefighters located an exhausted kayaker Monday evening after his friends reported him missing when he failed to return to Makena Landing.
Firefighters responded to a report of a missing 30-year-old man at about 5:10 p.m.
The Maui Fire Department said his friends called 911 when he failed to return.
Firefighters aboard the department’s helicopter spotted the 30-year-old man on shore walking on rough lava rock terrain to a roadway within the Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve, according to a news release from the Maui Fire Department.
Fire rescue provided him with footwear and escorted him to the roadway.
