A 37-year-old woman has died after she and a man were found unresponsive in waters off of Keawakapu Beach in Kihei.
At about 4:50 p.m. Thursday, police responded to a report of a man and woman found facedown in waters south of the beach.
Bystanders brought them to shore and administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation before firefighters and paramedics arrived.
Police said the man, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics transported the woman in critical condition to Maui Memorial Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.
The causes of death are under investigation. Both the man and woman were visitors from South Korea.
Positive identification is pending notification of next of kin.
Queens’ MarketPlace fire quickly extinguished
Hawaii island firefighters extinguished a small structure fire Friday at the Queens’ MarketPlace in Waikoloa.
The fire was reported at 2:32 p.m. Firefighters were on the scene by 2:38 p.m. and had the fire fully extinguished by 2:45 p.m. A total of five units staffed with six personnel were dispatched.
No injuries were reported.
