Lava flow slows down — is it a pause?

    Geologists early Sunday morning observed eruptive activity at Fissure 8 that was much less vigorous than in past days.

    The Pohoiki boat ramp remained intact Sunday. The active ocean entry near the coastline at Ahalanui was small with laze plumes diminishing.

While there has been a significant slowdown in the surge of lava flowing from fissure 8 into the ocean the past few days, scientists said it is too soon to say yet whether it is coming to an end. Read more
