Malibu Marlin Club-Topanga Beach reeled in a 652.1-pound Pacific blue marlin to move up to second in the standings after Thursday’s fourth day of the 59th Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament off Kona.
Malibu Marlin Club-Topanga Beach caught the marlin 19 minutes into the competition.
Moreton Bay Game Fish Club leads with 1,000 points, Malibu Marlin Club-Topanga Beach has 952.1 and Kona Game Fishing Club-Osaka is third with 900 heading into the final day of the event.
A total of seven Pacific blue marlin and two 100-plus-pound ahi were caught Thursday.
Strom-Okimoto earns preseason accolades
Hawaii midfielder Raisa Strom-Okimoto has been named to the Preseason All-Big West women’s soccer team for the second consecutive year, the conference announced Friday.
Strom-Okimoto, a senior, had three goals and two assists in 1,470 minutes last season when Hawaii finished 6-10-1 overall and 1-6-1 in the Big West.
The Rainbows Wahine were picked to finish last in the nine-team Big West. UC Irvine was picked to win the conference.
Hawaii opens the season against Texas A&M on Aug. 17 in the Outrigger Soccer Kickoff at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
Thomas is top reliever in Cape Cod league
Hawaii redshirt junior Dylan Thomas has been named the Russ Ford Outstanding Relief Pitcher for the Cape Cod summer baseball league, the association announced Thursday.
Thomas, who played for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks, went 3-0 with a 1.19 ERA over 272⁄3 innings and recorded nine saves.
Thomas was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 38th round in June, but elected not to sign.
