Malibu Marlin Club-Topanga Beach, which gained a 100-point bonus for the largest fish of the tournament, took home the Governor’s Trophy at the 59th Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament on Friday.
Malibu Marlin Club-Topanga Beach’s big catch was a 652.1-pound Pacific blue marlin, which was reeled in Thursday off Kona.
Malibu Marlin Club-Topanga Beach finished with 1,052.1 points to win the five-day tournament. The team’s captain was Buzz Colton and the anglers were Fred Duerr, Howard Dietrich and Doug Hays.
Moreton Bay Game Fish Club was second with 1,000 and Kona Game Fishing Club-Osaka and J.J. Game Fishing Club were third with 900.
Thirty-one Pacific blue marlin, 15 short nose spearfish and 13 ahi were caught during the tournament.
