While I applaud Mayor Kirk Caldwell for timely Hurricane Lane updates, I found some information confusing.
First, it was suggested early on that if we live in housing built before 1995, we should consider evacuating to a shelter. Here in Mililani, I would submit that most houses were built prior to 1995, yet no shelters were opened and the closest one was Leilehua High School.
Also, we were told that if we were going to a shelter, there would be buses driving around neighborhoods looking for such people so there was no need to go to the nearest bus stop. It would make more sense to use the bus stops than to have people stand by the road.
Lastly, we were told to bring bedding, 14 days of food and drink, pills and a pet to the shelter. However, on the bus you were limited to one bag (surely not enough room for even 14 days of food and water). I suggest these instructions be reviewed and modified.
