When a minor commits a crime, the parents are held accountable. So why is the state Department of Education being sued when a child is being bullied by another (“Lawsuit filed against DOE,” Star-Advertiser, Sept. 1)?
Physical contact without permission is called assault. Why are the parents of these bullies not being held accountable? Is the DOE responsible for poor parenting?
The responsibility of the schools is to educate our children and teach them the three Rs: reading, (w)riting, (a)rithmetic. Parents need to teach their kids three Rs: rules, respect and responsibility. When parents fail, they end up with undisciplined children. Then they wonder where they went wrong. Really?
When my dad got mad at us kids, my mom used to say, “They never asked to brought into this world.”
To the parents of these bullies, if you don’t know how to raise your kids, don’t bring them into this world.
It’s not the DOE’s kuleana.
