The Hawaii Pacific women’s volleyball team opened its four-match PacWest conference road trip with a five-set win at Concordia Irvine 25-23, 25-19, 13-25, 22-25, 15-13 on Monday in Irvine, Calif.
The Sharks (3-7 overall, 2-2 PacWest) hit .146 for the match. Freshman Nicole Ferris led HPU with 13 kills, while Perla Escobar recorded 12 kills and 16 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. HPU continues its road trip on Wednesday at Azusa Pacific.
>> Hawaii Hilo fell in straight sets at PacWest leader Azusa Pacific 25-23, 27-25, 25-12 on Monday in Azusa, Calif. The Vulcans (6-3, 2-1) saw their four-match winning streak end. Kiley Davis led UHH with eight kills, while Bria Beale added seven. The Vulcans play at Concordia Irvine on Wednesday.
>> Chaminade hit a season-low .057 and saw its program-record nine-match win streak come to an end with a 25-14, 25-12, 25-18 loss on Monday at Biola in La Mirada, Calif. The Silverswords (9-1, 3-1) were led by Rachel Reedy with 10 kills. Chaminade, which entered the match leading Division II in kills per set (15.06), recorded just 33 for the match.
Emma Tecklenburg, the PacWest leader in kills, was held to a season-low four kills. The ‘Swords, who are seeking their first win in southern California since October 2015, play at Point Loma on Wednesday.
ISLAND PACIFIC GOLF ALL-STARS FINISH FOURTH
The Island Pacific All-Stars of the Pacific Golf Academy (Kapolei) finished fourth at the PGA Junior League Regional last weekend in San Diego.
The team went 0-3 and recorded 21⁄2 points in their three sessions. On Saturday, the group lost 11-1 to the Crow Canyon All-Stars and 11-1 to the Grayhawk All-Stars. The Regional ended with an 111⁄2 -1⁄2 loss to the San Diego County All-Stars, the eventual Rancho Bernardo Regional champions.
Team members were Toby Gallego (age 11), Gregory Jackson Jr. (13), Connor Koyano (11), Mathias Mafi (11), Jet Magsanide (14), Jade Mauga (14), Coda Mayo (10), Scarlett Schremmer (11), Ehukai Sugai (12) and Leland Uyeda (12). They were captained by Oliver Oliquiano, PGA-Island Pacific Golf Academy and coached by Loreto Magsanide.
