Distracted driving, especially texting while driving, can have eternal consequences.
Last Friday morning, my wife and I were at a red light, waiting to turn left from Kamehameha Highway onto H-3. Our green turn arrow appeared, and as I reached the right lane, I noticed a white vehicle approaching the intersection at high speed, probably around 50 mph.
The driver didn’t slow, didn’t swerve, and didn’t notice either the red light or the red Prius crossing the intersection. This vehicle clipped my rear bumper, apparently unaware. In fact, the driver may be wondering, even now, what caused the red paint streak on the front right bumper.
Had I delayed my turn by a mere half-second, I would have been T-boned. Instead of writing this letter, our daughters would be making unexpected funeral arrangements for their parents, who would be in eternity with our God.
Do not text and drive. We’d be eternally grateful if you all put your phones away while driving.
