The words of U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono, “I just want to say to the men in this country: Just shut up and step up. Do the right thing, for a change,” regarding the confirmation issue of Brett Kavanaugh, was undignified and embarrassing to many Hawaii people from the land of aloha.
Members of Congress should use tact and discretion when relaying personal feelings and comments, especially when regarding unsubstantiated issues, always refraining from foul language.
U.S. Sens. Dan Inouye and Spark Matsunaga, both World War II heroes, carried themselves with dignity and pride for the people of Hawaii and their visitors.
What happened to “innocent until proven guilty” for Kava- naugh? Hirono’s tarnishing, embarrassing and unkind words will remain in American history forever. She owes the people of Hawaii an apology.
