U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono’s recent comments regarding Judge Brett Kavanaugh and the sexual assault allegation levied against him are off the mark in three ways.
First, her personal opinion is one thing, but as a U.S. senator and member of the Judiciary Committee, it is ironic that she has publicly reached a conclusion of guilt concerning the allegations before any hearings or other evidence.
Second, her comment, “It’s the men in this country. And I just want to say to the men in this country: Just shut up and step up. Do the right thing for a change.” Wow. As wrong as a misogynist agenda is, so goes the same for her obviously misandristic views. Substitute the “women” every place “men” appears in her quote and my point will be clear.
Finally, her complete loss of decorum in her on-the-record quote to ABC News — “This is such bulls—t” — did not help in any way to advance the issue. To be clear, this type of language from a public official is always wrong whether from men, women, Republicans or Democrats. Hirono should know better.
