Police arrest man in fatal Haleiwa shooting
The Honolulu Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred early Saturday morning in Haleiwa.
HPD Lt. Mark Matsusaka of the Criminal Investigations Division said a 40-year-old man was shot near Haleiwa Beach Park at approximately 12:45 a.m. Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded and provided advanced life-support to the victim, who was taken to Wahiawa General Hospital and pronounced dead.
Matsusaka said police arrested a 22-year-old man around 6:30 a.m. on a charge of murder for his possible role in the shooting.
Matsusaka said police shut down a portion of Kamehameha Highway near the beach park from 12:45 to 7 a.m. so they could investigate.

A good Samaritan jumped into the ocean at Three Tables Beach to save the woman and brought her onto rocks to administer CPR, Honolulu Emergency Services Department’s Shayne Enright said in an email.
Lifeguards on watercraft carried the woman on board and later to shore to continue CPR. Paramedics took over to administer advanced life-saving treatment.
Paramedics transported the woman to a nearby hospital in critical condition at the time.
Surf was said to be 6 feet high, Enright said.
Four others were shaken but uninjured Saturday after escaping potentially deadly ocean conditions in a pair of separate incidents also at Three Tables.
Around 1:30 p.m., lifeguards rescued three men in their mid-30s from the water.
A couple of hours later, another man, believed to be in his 20s, got into trouble at the same spot but was able to return to shore on his own.
Ocean Safety officials said there traditionally is an uptick in rescues at Three Tables and nearby Sharks Cove this time of year, in part because while surf may appear small, winter surf and strong currents can create dangerous situations.
Neither location has lifeguards on duty, although both have multiple warning signs alerting the public to dangerous conditions. The public is advised not to enter the water in areas where there are no lifeguards to consult about conditions.
