Honolulu Police Department officers direct traffic along Pali Highway in Nuuanu following a pedestrian accident earlier today.

An 83-year-old pedestrian who was critically injured early this afternoon when he was hit by a vehicle on the Pali Highway in Nuuanu has died, police said tonight.

Police said a white 2010 Ford pickup truck, heading southbound and driven by a 24-year-old Honolulu man, struck the pedestrian while he was walking westbound in a marked crosswalk.

Emergency Medical Services officials said that at about 12:30 p.m. paramedics treated a man who had injuries to his head, torso, arms and legs, and took him to a trauma hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.

Police closed all town-bound lanes of the Pali Highway near Wood Street in Nuuanu as they responded to — and investigated — the incident. They were reopened at about 2 p.m.

Police said that speed, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the collision.
