Honolulu police lieutenant charged with multiple tax violations

Honolulu Police Department Professional Standards detectives arrested an HPD lieutenant on Wednesday for alleged tax violations.

Eric Yiu was charged Monday in Circuit Court for six counts of filing false and fraudulent tax returns for tax years 2011 to 2016, according to a news release issued by the state Department of Taxation.

If convicted, Yiu could face up to a maximum of three years’ imprisonment, or probation and a fine of not more than $100,000 for each count.

HPD, the FBI and the state Attorney General and Taxation departments conducted the joint investigation.

Landlord arrested for threatening tenant

Police arrested a 59-year-old landlord after he allegedly threatened a tenant with a cordless drill during an argument over rent in Kaimuki.

Police said the suspect threatened the tenant, a 58-year-old man, with bodily harm at approximately 5:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said the landlord partially entered the residence during the argument while he activated the drill. Police were called and the suspect was arrested on suspicion of first-degree burglary.
