Pedestrian accidents continued to mount Wednesday, with two more deaths resulting from being struck by vehicles.

A 5-year-old girl was killed Wednesday afternoon after she was hit by a truck at Aliamanu Military Reservation, and an 83-year-old man died Wednesday evening from injuries he sustained midday after being struck by a truck while walking in a Nuuanu crosswalk.

Earlier in the day, an SUV struck a 60-year-old woman, seriously injuring her in a crosswalk in Wailupe.

The two deaths and serious injury follow a long string of critical and deadly pedestrian collisions in the last few weeks, adding up to 25 pedestrians killed on Oahu so far this year.

On Tuesday, 41-year-old Donald Calarruda of Waianae was struck by a white pickup truck in Maili as he crossed Farrington Highway at Linakola Street in a marked crosswalk. The driver fled the scene. He was then hit by two more vehicles and was taken in critical condition to a hospital where he later died.

The 5-year-old girl was a military family member and died at the scene of the 4 p.m. accident, U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii reported in a brief media release.

A Honolulu police dispatch supervisor reported that a truck was involved in that pedestrian collision.

A team from Honolulu Police Department’s Vehicular Homicide Section investigated the death of the child, remaining at the scene for hours into the night.

The 83-year-old pedestrian was initially critically injured at about 12:24 p.m. when he was hit by a pickup truck on the Pali Highway in Nuuanu.

Police said a white 2010 Ford pickup truck, heading southbound and driven by a 24-year-old Honolulu man, struck the man while he was walking westbound in a marked crosswalk.

Emergency Medical Services paramedics treated the man, who had injuries to his head, torso, arms and legs, and took him to a trauma hospital in critical condition.

Police closed all town-bound lanes of the Pali Highway near Wood Street in Nuuanu as they responded to — and investigated — the incident. The lanes were reopened at about 2 p.m.

Police said that speed, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the collision.

Emergency Medical Services treated a 60-year-old woman after she was struck by a sport utility vehicle while she was crossing the roadway at the intersection of Kalanianaole Highway and Waa Street Wednesday morning, according to Emergency Medical spokesman Dustin Malama.

She sustained shoulder injuries and was taken to a trauma center in serious condition.

That accident occurred at 7:50 a.m.
