Firefighters use a helicopter to drop water on a brush fire today near the Diamond Head Lighthouse.

Honolulu firefighters are investigating the cause of a one-acre brush fire that burned on the slopes of Diamond Head this afternoon.

About 25 firefighters responded after the blaze broke out above Diamond Head Road and the lighthouse at about 11:25 a.m., said Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Scot Seguirant.

Police closed the road while firefighters battled the blaze and another smaller brush fire that broke out downwind of the first fire, possibly because of the first fire, Seguirant said.

The second smaller fire burned about one-half acre in size.

Firefighters fully contained both fires by 1:40 p.m. They left the scene shortly after 2 p.m.

No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged, Seguirant said.
