Children and adults can ride “blender bikes” and pedal their way to a healthy, yummy beverage. The Blend It! Smoothie Station is just one of more than 30 educational health and wellness activities at Kids Fest, Sunday at the Bishop Museum.
“The Teddy Bear Clinic is definitely one of the most popular (activities) each year,” said Dr. Cedric Akau, physical medicine and rehabilitation physician at Straub Medical Center and event co-chair. “Keiki learn about what it’s like when you have to go to the hospital by following Teddy Bear through the various steps from admission to discharge.”
The activity is designed to educate families on how to stay safe and prevent injuries, Akau said.
There will also be Keiki Zumba, an “Incredibles” Obstacle Course complete with medals for kids who cross the finish line, free snacks, giveaways while supplies last and more.
Keiki ages 4-12 can enter to win one of 70 bicycles and helmets, and two surfboards.
Kids Fest is presented by Hawaii Pacific Health and its four medical centers — Kapiolani, Pali Momi, Straub and Wilcox — and various community partners. Hawaii Pacific Health’s mission is to create a healthier Hawaii, Akau noted.
“One way we can work to fulfill our mission is to provide educational opportunities for families to learn how to stay active and healthy, and how to do it together,” he said.
