UPDATE: 8:15 a.m.

Highway 11 between mile marker 114 and mile marker 115 has been reopened after an earlier vehicle accident.

A fallen tree and traffic this morning caused two separate road closures of Highway 11 on Hawaii island.

Hawaii County police reported a fallen tree near mile marker 20 on the highway at 4:45 a.m. today and advised of alternate routes for motorists in that area.

The alternate route for southbound traffic is to turn right on Kaleiponi Road, right onto Kahauale’a Road then onto Highway 11. The alternate route for northbound traffic is to turn right at Kahauale’a Road and then left on Kaleiponi Road.

Police expect the road to be closed for the next hour while crews remove the tree and debris.

Meanwhile, between mile markers 114 and 115 near Higashihara Park, motorists are advised to drive with caution due to a vehicle accident. The Mamalahoa Bypass Road and Highway 180, the Mamalahoa Highway are available as alternate routes.
