A new Down to Earth store is under construction near the former Toys R Us location in Pearl City.

Down to Earth plans the opening of its new Pearl City store on Dec. 1, the natural foods chain announced today.

The 13,000-square-food store is under construction at Pearlridge Center East, at the corner of Moanalua Road and Pali Momi Street, next to the old Toys R Us site.

Down to Earth’s original Pearlridge location opened in 2,000 in a much smaller space at Pearlridge West, in the same complex as Bed, Bath and Beyond.

The new store will be a two-story space, the company said, with a second-floor mezzanine to be used as a dining area and for cooking demonstrations, seminars and other functions. It will carry organic grocery products, natural beauty and household items, and the vegetarian deli that Down to Earth stores are known for. Hours will be 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

The company is in the middle of a growth spurt, having opened a 13,000-square-foot location in Kakaako in April, and with a Kailua opening set for next year. The Kailua store, in the former Macy’s building, will be a 15,000-square-foot space, the largest in the chain.
