A series of public hearings over the next month will give community members a chance to share their thoughts on proposed changes to rules against bullying and harassment at Hawaii public schools.

The Board of Education recently approved changes to Chapter 19, the discipline code, and Chapter 89, which covers civil rights policy and complaints.

One shift would elevate bullying and cyberbullying to the most serious offenses for students in grades 7 to 12, alongside assault, drug and weapons violations. Another proposal adds sexual harassment as an offense.
