A 60-year-old man who was found unresponsive in waters near the Ala Wai Boat Harbor has died.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified him as Yoshindo Nagai of Saitama prefecture in Japan. The cause of death is still pending.
Police and Emergency Medical Services said a good Samaritan found a man later identified as Nagai unresponsive in the water at approximately 1 p.m. Wednesday. Lifeguards brought him to shore and administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
EMS arrived and conducted advanced lifesaving treatment before taking Nagai in critical condition to a hospital where he died.
Police classified the case as an unattended death as there were no indication of suspicious circumstances.
Waianae harbor body ID’d
A 54-year-old man who died after he was found unresponsive in waters off of the Waianae Boat Harbor on Wednesday was identified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office as Henry Pelekai Jr. of Waianae.
His cause of death is still pending.
A fisherman found an unresponsive man later identified as Pelekai in waters approximately a quarter-mile from shore at about 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Firefighters responded and brought him to shore. Emergency Medical Services pronounced him dead at the scene.
A police spokeswoman has said the case has been classified as an unattended death as there are no suspicious circumstances.
