The state Department of Land and Natural Resources staff has recommended that the Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR) approve a revocable permit to allow the Kahala Hotel & Resort to continue its hotel activities on the state-owned parcel of land located contiguous to the hotel (“BLNR considers Kahala, Ala Wai permit issues,” Star-Advertiser, Nov. 8). This is the same property that the hotel had an earlier approval from BLNR to improve.
I believe the DLNR staff is right on, and the hotel should be granted the revocable permit with fair rent to be agreed upon.
If resorts and hotels are allowed to expand their tourism offerings on their zoned properties, these tourism activities will be kept there and not take place in our residential communities.
We should encourage all tourism activities providers to stay within tourism-zoned areas, including vacation rentals.
