Chaminade was awarded a berth Sunday into the West Region of the 64-team NCAA Division II women’s volleyball tournament.
The Silverswords (23-5) are the No. 7 seed in the West Region and will face No. 2 seed Cal State San Bernardino (26-2) in the quarterfinal, hosted by Western Washington in Bellingham, Wash. Cal State San Bernardino ended the regular season as No. 1 in the latest AVCA Division II poll.
Chaminade and Cal State San Bernardino meet Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Hawaii time. On Friday, the Chaminade-CSUSB winner faces the winner of the Cal State Los Angeles-Central Washington match. The regional final is 5 p.m. on Saturday.
It is the first NCAA appearance for Chaminade since 2004. The 23 wins are also a program record for the Silverswords, who finished the Pacific West Conference with a 17-5 record.
UH sailing team finishes sixth
The Hawaii sailing team finished the fall schedule with a sixth-place finish at the PCCSC Fall Championship hosted by UC Santa Barbara over the weekend.
The Rainbows finished with 234 total points. UCSB won the regatta with 88 points, 13 ahead of runner-up Stanford.
UH’s best finish came in the B Division, where Patrick Wilkinson and Danielle Ahir took fifth place.
