Kaiolu Street in Waikiki closed through early December for HECO work

HECO’s contractor is working with equipment positioned on the mauka end of Kaiolu Street, blocking the flow of traffic to Ala Wai Boulevard.

Kaiolu Street in Waikiki will remain closed to through traffic 24 hours a day through Dec. 7, according to the Hawaiian Electric Company, as crews continue drilling work to install new, 46-kilovolt cables under the Ala Wai Canal.

HECO’s contractor is working with equipment positioned on the mauka end of Kaiolu Street, blocking the flow of traffic to Ala Wai Boulevard.

During the closure, local traffic may enter and exit Kaiolu Street at Kuhio Avenue. Parking on Kaiolu Street is also restricted to allow the normally one-way street to accommodate two-way traffic.

Message boards are up, along with traffic control signs and cones to direct motorists around the closure.
