Man, 49, in critical condition after motorcycle crash in Waianae

A 49-year-old man was in critical condition Friday after he was hit by a van while riding a motorcycle in Leeward Oahu, Honolulu police said.

The man was traveling westbound on Farrington Highway near Hookele Street in Maili at about 6 p.m. when the driver of the van, a 63-year-old man, exited from a driveway of a 76 gas station and struck the motorcyclist, police said.

The driver of the van was not hurt.

Police said the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and was taken to a hospital with critical injuries to his head and legs.

An Emergency Medical Services report on Friday said paramedics treated a man in his 30s, but police said he was 49.

Police closed Farrington Highway in both directions between Hakimo and Mailiili roads for about three hours to investigate.
