Sexual assault suspect arrested after police standoff in Moiliili

Honolulu police arrested a 49-year-old man Friday after a standoff with police that forced the closure of Isenberg Street in Moiliili.

Police said the man tried to fondle a woman in the common area of his apartment complex, then locked himself inside his unit when police went to arrest him at about 8:15 a.m.

The man would not come out and began breaking the windows of his unit in the complex, police said.

A police Specialized Services Department unit was dispatched to the incident.

Police said Isenberg Street was closed between South King and South Beretania streets at about 1:15 p.m. for the police response.

The man surrendered shortly after 2 p.m. and was arrested for investigation of third-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree criminal property damage, and resisting arrest.
