Honolulu firefighters and lifeguards rescued nine people from a 24-foot boat that was floundering off the Waianae Coast Saturday afternoon.
The boaters called for help at about 12:15 p.m. after the vessel lost its steering just over a half-mile out to sea from Maili Beach Park, said Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Scot Seguirant.
Firefighters launched their rescue boat but lifeguards on a personal watercraft were already towing the disabled vessel back to shore. Firefighters escorted the boat in tow back to the harbor shortly after 1 p.m.
Seguirant said no one was injured.
Sex assault suspect surrenders after standoff
Honolulu police arrested a 49-year-old man Friday after a standoff with police that forced the closure of Isenberg Street in Moiliili.
Police said the man tried to fondle a woman who was in the common area of his apartment complex. The man locked himself inside his apartment when police went to arrest him at about 8:15 a.m.
The man would not come out and began breaking his apartment windows, police said. Police dispatched a Specialized Services Department unit to deal with the situation and Isenberg Street was closed between South King and South Beretania streets at about 1:15 p.m. for the police response.
The man surrendered shortly after 2 p.m. and was arrested for investigation of third-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree criminal property damage and resisting arrest.

The 63-year-old man who was driving the van was not injured.
Police closed Farrington Highway in both directions between Hakimo and Mailiili roads for about three hours to investigate.
