Commission approves security upgrades for Las Vegas airport

The check-in line is packed at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas. The Clark County Commission has approved upgrades for the airport that include more lanes for automated security screening.
LAS VEGAS >> McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas is set to get security upgrades that include adding more lanes at the “A” and “B” checkpoints inside Terminal 1.
The Clark County Commission on Tuesday approved the $8 million project intended to make lines move faster by making changes that include adding more lanes and reconfiguring the queuing area.
In addition, more lanes will have automated screening technology that uses X-ray machines and cameras to sort items for Transportation Security Administration inspection.
Airport spokeswoman Christine Crews says work to add the new lanes will begin in early 2019 and take six to nine months to complete.
