After a long and costly hotel union workers’ strike for higher wages, it would seem that the remaining hotels who have not negotiated a new contract with Unite Here Local 5 would sign as soon as possible (“Strike’s end means 5 hotels down, about 15 more to go,” Star-Advertiser, Nov. 29).
It is logical to use the Kyo-ya contract as a standard for a quick resolution of these wage issues.
As we all know full well, the increased costs to the hotel owners will simply be passed onto hotel guests and no loss of revenues will ensue.
Judging from the ever-increasing arrivals and higher occupancy rates, it only makes sense to show some aloha for the image of Waikiki and Hawaii and quickly sign new contracts with Local 5.
