Wind advisory in effect for Lanai, Maui, Big Island and Kahoolawe

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a wind advisory for Lanai, Maui, Big Island and Kahoolawe through 6 p.m. Sunday.

Sustained winds of at least 30 mph are expected makai of Lanai, mauka of Maui and Kahoolawe as well as East Kohala, Central Valley, south and north of Big Island.

Winds will travel northeast 25 to 35 mph with localized wind gusts of at least 50 mph. Winds will be strongest over higher terrain.

NWSH advises drivers to use extra caution as strong winds may knock down tree branches and cause sporadic power outages.
