The headlines announcing the fragile health of Beth Chapman inspired me to contact the Chapmans to remind them that their generosity to the community did not go unnoticed or forgotten (“Beth Chapman undergoes emergency surgery in Los Angeles,” Star-Advertiser, Nov. 27).
As a former state senator representing the Hawaii Kai/Portlock area, I contacted Beth and Duane “Dog” Chapman to ask if they would donate the last needed $3,500 to repair and make safe the Hanapepe Brow beach access so that new generations of surfers can enjoy the ocean as others have before them.
I wanted people to know how generous they are because they did not receive the recognition that they should have. They gave without hesitation the last and final amount to complete the now-safe access enjoyed by many. God bless them in their time of challenge.
