For an evening that’s sure to be both merry and bright, check out the 22nd annual Festival of Lights Christmas Boat Parade Saturday at Hawaii Kai Towne Center. The East Honolulu tradition returns with colorful boats decorated for the holidays parading across the waterway.
“While it’s fun to see things like Santa or Dr. Seuss characters sail past, it’s wonderful to see community members in the parade,” said Marc Higuchi, general manager of Hawaii Kai Towne Center. “You see families in their decorated boats, sharing holiday cheer. They really get into it. The lights reflect on the water, making this one of the most unique holiday traditions on Oahu.”
Live entertainment kicks off the event at 3 p.m. at the marina docks with Uluwehi Young, followed by Dayton Watanabe at 4:30 p.m. The parade will commence at sunset.
“You can eat at different options throughout the center or go holiday shopping before heading to the marina docks to watch the boats,” Higuchi said. “We love seeing families come out each year to enjoy the Festival of Lights Boat Parade.”
