The federal Department of Transportation will disburse some $1.5 billion to fund 91 infrastructure projects around the country — none in Hawaii.

The grants are generated by the department’s BUILD infrastructure support program and will fund road, rail and port projects in every state — and the District of Columbia — except Hawaii.

In a release issued on Tuesday, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao said her department received more than 850 applications for grants.

Chao said infrastructure issues are “especially ripe for bipartisan cooperation.”
