Pedestrian, 85, who was killed on Kauai highway ID’d

Kauai police have identified the pedestrian killed in a traffic collision on Kaumualii Highway on Wednesday at Takeshi Nakato, 85, of Lawai.

Police believe Nakato was attempting to cross the highway, outside of a marked crosswalk, when he was struck by a Honda sedan shortly before 6 a.m.

He was transported to Wilcox Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the sedan, a 37-year-old woman, was not injured.

Police said speed, alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors in the collision.
