When is Hawaii going to realize ticketing drivers is not the solution to our pedestrian accidents? Why isn’t more being done to educate and ticket the people who do not follow the crosswalk laws in our state?
Pedestrians are constantly crossing the streets illegally, entering a crosswalk after the red light flashes or counts down. Running to beat the light, not looking before entering a crosswalk, street or driveway, and so on.
If we start ticketing more pedestrians, hopefully they will become aware of our crosswalk laws, start to obey them and decrease accidents.
Ticketing drivers has proven to be ineffective, and increasing the fines will not decrease accidents. An accident is an accident. Regardless of who is at fault, the pedestrian will always lose. Why not educate them to look out for their own lives and also obey our laws?
