When I see the average Republican political figures on the news these days, I can’t stand to even look at them (or hear their voices) anymore.
These sorry individuals epitomize for me the despicable state of the modern Republican Party, with all their shameless lies, hypocrisy, cronyism and spitefulness.
But lately, I’ve been trying to balance it all out somewhat by keeping in mind certain other Republicans, from back in happier, more honorable times when the “Grand Old Party” could still be referred to as such with a straight face.
If I listen carefully, I can still hear George H.W. Bush’s impassioned entreaty, as president, that we Americans should sue each other less and love each other more. And, more recently, John McCain’s flat statement that he couldn’t, in good conscience, support legislation that would rob millions of people of health insurance.
I will sorely miss these two good men.
